A West Midlands-based education recruitment agency, TeacherActive, secured gold for the ‘Best Company to Work for – SME’ in 2024’s UK Employee Experience Awards (UK EXA 24).
‘Best Company to Work for – SME’ was one of three awards picked up by TeacherActive, which also secured gold in the ‘Learning & Development’ category and bronze for ‘Best Employee Experience’.
TeacherActive is one of the largest education recruitment agencies in the UK, operating across 21 branches in England and Wales with over 200 staff members. Established in 2004, the people-centric business invests heavily in internal team training, progression and rewards along with diversity and inclusion to ensure a positive working environment for sales and support teams.
TeacherActive partners with educators and care staff to provide permanent and temporary employment in up to 3,600 settings across the UK. To support candidate’s development and growth the agency created My-Progression, a CPD platform that provides training videos on YouTube and free CPD certificates to evidence career development. Over 21,000 hours of videos have been watched since My-Progression’s launch in 2022, becoming a pillar of the agency’s learning & development strategies which saw them pick up the top award in the ‘Learning and Development’ category at UK EXA 24.
For internal team members, TeacherActive has invested heavily in a bespoke, in-house Learning & Development department. The dedicated team creates in-person, online, and virtual training sessions to help team members get the most out of their careers, providing information on the education and care sector, safeguarding, recruitment best practices and employability skills to further team members’ professional development. Training is facilitated by The Academy which, combined with milestone rewards, progression and benefits such as health insurance and extra days of annual leave, creates a well-rounded development strategy that saw TeacherActive win the bronze award.
These strategies merely scratch the surface of the people-centric approach that TeacherActive adopts throughout the business. Many decisions that influence company culture and diversity and inclusion are suggested by TeacherActive’s team members, not by the board of directors, which contributed to the award of ‘Best Place to Work – SME’ at UK EXA 24.
These three accolades follow from the news that TeacherActive is included in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024, referencing the “uncapped commission… extra annual leave to take part in charitable events and regular charity fundraising events. A diversity and inclusion committee organises regular cultural events too.”
Richard Taylor, Chief Operating Officer, said: “We're proud of winning the Best Company - SME and Learning & Development awards at UK EXA 24. It's a testament to all the hard work our community put in to make TeacherActive a genuine, people-centric business. From initiatives designed to make our offices into great spaces to work, to improvements made to the compliance process, and Empower-inspired enhancements to our parental leave policy and the truly creative bank holiday exchange scheme, there's a great deal of care, attention, and effort that has gone into driving effective change to make TeacherActive a special place to be. In addition to this, our CPD YouTube channel, My-Progression, is a unique platform that helps our educators inspire the next generation. We're incredibly pleased to get recognition from the EXA judges for these efforts.”
With a 6% share of the education recruitment market, TeacherActive has seen incredible growth over 2023 and 2024, welcoming new staff to join their internal team across England and Wales. For more information, visit TeacherActive’s careers page on their website.
