Introduction
As we celebrate two decades of building careers and shaping futures, TeacherActive has released its second Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) & Impact Report. More than a document—it’s our commitment in action. From championing sustainability to advancing inclusion and safeguarding, we’re proud to drive positive change across the education recruitment sector to ignite a passion for learning and inspire progression for change.
Our 2024–2025 ESG & Impact Report outlines the ways we are holding ourselves accountable while supporting those who empower learning—educators, clients, internal teams, and communities.
Our environmental responsibility
We pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030, reducing our impact on the environment beyond meeting legal and regulatory requirements. Initiatives to keep us on track with this goal include:
- Where we have relocated offices this year, we have moved into offices that have B-Corp certification, approved plans to run on 100% renewable energy, support verified carbon off-setting schemes or have pledged to operate at NetZero ahead of 2050.
- Partnering with TravelPerk to offset business travel emissions.
- Increased and will continue to review the number of flexible working arrangements available to our teams.
- Launching Transform, our internal sustainability task force to drive focused, actionable objectives, and embed a culture that recognises the value we have and the impact that our decisions make, both as individuals and as a team.
We’re embedding environmental awareness into everything we do—from policies and office procurement to employee initiatives.
People-first: social impact in action
Education is powered by people, and our social initiatives reflect just that. Our Empower programme continues to lead on diversity, equity and inclusion, running over 20 events in one year and publishing our third Empower manifesto.
Highlights include:
- Inclusive policy changes including Bank Holiday Exchange and Maternity/Paternity leave
- My-Progression, our CPD platform delivering guidance to educators, gaining 127 videos and over 341,000 views in 2024.
- Recognition as Best Company to Work For (SME) at the UK Employee Experience Awards.
- Gaining Sunday Times Best Places to Work status, wherein 87% of employees feel happy (and safe) with their working environment and 90% of employees have a good relationship with their manager.
- Mental Health Workplace Responders within the Empower team, neurodiversity training for managers and Disability Confident Employer status.
Progression is paramount to us, through a bespoke Learning & Development team, dedicated leadership development and investing in specialist training schemes, along with Empower and, we’re able to uplift internal team members to bring their whole selves to work.
Giving back through CSR and charity work
In 2024, TeacherActive raised over £25,000 for charities nationwide, including:
- £10,000 for a green school project via Groundwork.
- £5,490 for our chosen charity partner Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
- Charity Cup and Charity Day initiatives allowing every colleague to get involved and raise funds for select charities.
Through Active Impact, every branch directly supports causes close to their communities, meaning we were able to donate £6,865 to charities local to our branches.
Governance that protects and progresses
Our governance practices ensure full compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education and Keeping Learners Safe (Wales) standards. Our in-house Compliance team oversees every candidate placement, supported by:
- REC Audited Education accreditation.
- Cyber Essentials certification.
- Thorough vetting, privacy, and safeguarding policies.
- Full staff training and transparent data protection practices.
We also remain steadfast in our commitment to eliminating modern slavery and ensure all staff and any educators we supply, both directly and indirectly, are not subjected to modern slavery or any similar human rights abuses.
Looking ahead
From reducing our carbon footprint to raising our social impact, every initiative reflects our mission: maximising learners’ development and attainment in the classroom, in their career and in their life. Whether it’s improving learning environments, enhancing careers, or fostering community—TeacherActive is committed to igniting a passion for learning and inspiring progression for change.
