Why teachers choose the UK

Teaching in the UK offers an inspiring mix of tradition, innovation, and opportunity. From world-renowned schools to lively, inclusive classrooms, it’s a place where teachers can thrive. Whether you’re guiding early learners through phonics in a village primary or bringing Shakespeare to life in a bustling city secondary, every day brings new experiences and a chance to grow professionally.

Beyond the classroom, life in the UK is rich with discovery. Medieval castles, vibrant street markets, and scenic coastal walks are all within easy reach - and with school holidays every term, you’ll have plenty of time to travel across the UK and explore Europe too.

Many internationally qualified teachers come to the UK to gain respected experience, build a global CV, and develop new skills in behaviour management, SEND, and curriculum delivery. It’s more than a job - it’s a springboard for your teaching career and your next adventure.

Your timeline to move

We’ll guide you every step of the way - starting well before your plane takes off. Around twelve months before your move, it’s a good idea to get in touch with TeacherActive, start exploring your visa options, and considering where in England or Wales you'd like to be based.

At the six-month mark, it’s time to confirm your interest in relocating to the UK. We’ll help you understand if you’re eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Status and get you started on your paperwork.

With three months to go, things really get exciting. You’ll begin looking for housing, book your flights, and complete your registration with us. You'll also have access to free CPD via our My-Progression platform.

Once you arrive in the UK, we’ll meet you in person to finalise your registration. From there, you can open a UK bank account, get a local mobile number, and start preparing for your first day in the classroom.
