HLTA / Higher Level Teaching Assistant – SEND
Wiltshire
Start Date: ASAP/April

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate HLTA to support children and young people across Key Stages 1 to 4 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a specialist provision set in a rural Somerset environment.

This role goes beyond academic support, you will play a key part in helping pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn. Many pupils have experienced barriers to education and may present with high levels of anxiety or behaviours that challenge. A calm, consistent and nurturing approach is essential.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will support the delivery of personalised learning, provide targeted interventions and help pupils develop confidence, independence and emotional regulation.

The Setting

This specialist provision supports pupils across KS1–KS4 with a range of complex needs, including autism and SEMH. The setting takes a trauma-informed and relational approach, where building trust, creating emotional safety and understanding behaviour as communication are central to practice.

Located in a peaceful, rural setting, the environment is intentionally structured to reduce overwhelm and support regulation, offering pupils the space and consistency they need to re-engage with learning.

Staff work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and the provision places strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, reflective practice and ongoing professional development.

About the Role

As a HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the provision. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of lessons and adapted curriculum activities
  • Leading small group interventions and occasional whole-class support
  • Providing 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation using consistent, trauma-informed strategies
  • Promoting independence, engagement and positive relationships

This is a full-time role, with part-time options considered.

The Successful HLTA Will Have:

✅ HLTA qualification or significant experience in a higher-level support role
Experience working with pupils with SEND (ASD, SEMH, ADHD, learning difficulties)
A calm, consistent and relational approach to behaviour and learning
An understanding of, or willingness to develop, trauma-informed practice
A genuine passion for supporting pupils’ wellbeing and long-term development

In Return, You Can Expect:

A supportive and values-driven working environment
Ongoing CPD, including training in trauma-informed and SEND practices
Dedicated consultant support available 24/7
PAYE pay structure – no hidden fees
