TeacherActive is working in partnership with a specialist SEND provision in Somerset, seeking an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from September 2025.
This is a long-term position with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to secure a stable role within a supportive and well-established setting.
The Role
As a HLTA, you will support children and young people across Key Stages 1 to 4 with autism (ASD) and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Working closely with teaching staff, you will help deliver learning activities, lead interventions, and provide targeted support to promote engagement and progress.
You will play a key role in helping pupils develop not only academically, but also socially and emotionally, within a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of lessons and targeted interventions across KS1–KS4
- Provide one-to-one and small group support
- Lead learning activities where appropriate
- Support behaviour regulation and emotional development
- Encourage independence, engagement, and positive learning behaviours
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- HLTA qualification or relevant experience in a higher-level support role
- Experience working with pupils with SEND (ASD, SEMH, ADHD, or related needs)
- A calm, consistent, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils’ learning and wellbeing
