About the School
We are a specialist SEND school based in Mildenhall dedicated to supporting children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Our school provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where pupils are supported to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Many of our pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and present with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We work closely with therapists, specialist staff, and families to ensure every pupil receives the personalised support they require.
The Role
We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will support pupils both in the classroom and through small group or one-to-one interventions, helping them to access learning and develop key life skills.
You will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ educational progress while promoting confidence, independence, and positive behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with SEND in the classroom, in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis
Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities
Help pupils develop communication, social, and independence skills
Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
Assist with monitoring pupil progress and reporting to the class teacher
Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people (ideally within SEND or education settings)
A patient, compassionate, and flexible approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable
Experience supporting pupils with Autism, learning difficulties, or SEMH needs
Knowledge of communication strategies such as Makaton or PECS
Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or willingness to undertake training
