SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Stockport

TeacherActive are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEND: SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students within an alternative provision setting in Stockport. This is a long term, full time opportunity with the potential to go permanent (salaried) for the right candidate.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, including those with autism and experiences of trauma.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs

  • Build positive, trusting relationships to support engagement and learning

  • Assist in managing behaviour in a calm, consistent and supportive manner

  • Support students with personalised learning plans

  • Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to meet individual needs

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, autism, or trauma

  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners

Desirable:

  • Experience within alternative provisions or PRU settings

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches

  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology or support work
