Are you a SEND Teaching Assistant or SEND TA passionate about supporting young people with complex needs, learning disabilities, and additional needs? Do you have experience helping children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, learning difficulties, or complex communication challenges?

We are partnering with Dovecote School, a specialist SEND provision in Somerset supporting children and young people from Early Years to Key Stage 5. The school focuses on developing independence, confidence, life skills, and academic progress for each learner. A trauma-informed, relationship-based approach ensures pupils feel safe, understood, and able to engage fully in learning.

About the SEND Teaching Assistant / SEND TA Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant / SEND TA, you will:

  • Support pupils with complex needs across classrooms and community activities
  • Assist learners with communication, independence, emotional regulation, and daily living skills
  • Deliver individualised support in line with each pupil’s SEND learning plan
  • Use calm, consistent, and nurturing strategies to manage challenging behaviours
  • Promote engagement, confidence, and personal growth in a structured, supportive environment

This role is ideal for a SEND TA or teaching assistant with experience in education, care, or youth support settings. Full training in specialist SEND practices and ongoing professional development will be provided.

Requirements for the SEND Teaching Assistant / SEND TA

✅ Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, ASC, SEMH, or learning difficulties
✅ Patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to meet each learner’s unique goals
✅ Confidence in managing challenging behaviour calmly and proactively
✅ Experience in education, care, or youth work settings
✅ Ideally, access to your own transport due to rural location
