Job Title: Learning Mentor (Pastoral)
Contract: Full Time, Temporary
Location: South Yardley
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Mentor (Grade 3) to join a lovely Primary School in South Yardley. This is a full-time position focused on providing pastoral support to pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis.
About the Role
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who may present with a range of needs, including behavioural challenges, learning difficulties, and anxiety. This is a pastoral role with no curriculum delivery requirement. Your primary focus will be to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, engagement, and readiness to learn.
You will also play an important role in supporting attendance, working with children and families to identify barriers and implement strategies to improve school engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral support to pupils
- Support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and learning needs
- Implement behaviour management strategies effectively and consistently
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Engage in sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations with parents and carers
- Support attendance monitoring and work proactively with families to improve attendance
- Liaise with staff and external agencies where appropriate
- Maintain accurate records of interventions and progress
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in a school or similar setting
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Confidence in holding professional, difficult conversations with parents and carers
- A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
