Job Description
TeacherActive is currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Head of Geography to join a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, from September.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a supportive Geography department of four staff, including an ITT and ECT, within a school that has recently received a successful Ofsted inspection and is continuing on a strong upward journey.
As Head of Geography, you will be responsible for leading the department, delivering high-quality teaching, and driving student progress and attainment across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will also benefit from working alongside an experienced Lead Practitioner of Humanities (Geography specialist), who will provide ongoing support.
This role is ideal for an experienced teacher looking to step into leadership, or an established Head of Department seeking a new challenge.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Geography department effectively
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with the National Curriculum
- Monitor and raise student attainment and progress
- Support and develop staff within the department, including ITT and ECT teachers
- Create a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving learning environment
- Work collaboratively with senior leaders and the wider Humanities team
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK – essential
- Experience teaching Geography at KS3 and KS4
- Previous leadership experience or readiness to step into a leadership role
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A passion for education and raising student outcomes
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
