TeacherActive is proud to be working with a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Quinton, Birmingham, currently seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Reception with autism.
This full-time maternity cover role begins September 2026 and will continue until July 2027, with the potential to continue further for the right Teaching Assistant. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to support a child’s development during their crucial early years.
About the Role:
Provide individualised 1:1 support to a Reception-aged child with autism, helping them access learning and daily routines.
Work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to implement and adapt individual education plans (IEPs).
Use a range of strategies—including visual supports and sensory tools—to support engagement, communication, and regulation.
Encourage confidence, independence, and social interaction in the classroom and throughout the school day.
Track and record the child’s progress, offering insights to the wider team and contributing to ongoing support planning.
About You:
We’re looking for someone who:
Has previous experience supporting children with autism or other special educational needs—ideally in EYFS or Key Stage 1.
Brings a calm, nurturing, and proactive approach to 1:1 support.
Holds a relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or an equivalent childcare/SEND qualification.
Communicates effectively with children, staff, and parents, and works well within a team.
Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils.
Is reliable, enthusiastic, and ready to make a lasting impact.
