Are you a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a genuine difference in a child's educational journey?

TeacherActive is currently recruiting for an experienced and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with autism in KS1 at a welcoming and supportive primary school in Bordesley Green, Birmingham.

This rewarding full-time role will begin in September 2026 and continue until July 2027 as part of a maternity cover arrangement, with the possibility of extension depending on the school's needs.

‍ About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child with autism within a KS1 classroom
• Support the child in accessing learning and engaging with classroom activities
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support plans
• Use effective strategies to support communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
• Help maintain routines and support transitions throughout the school day
• Build a positive and trusting relationship with the child and their family
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and SEN professionals

✅ What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from candidates who:

• Have previous experience supporting children with autism or additional needs, ideally within a primary school setting
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a calm, nurturing approach
• Hold a relevant qualification such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant (or equivalent)
• Are flexible, proactive, and able to adapt to individual learning needs
• Work effectively as part of a team and communicate confidently with staff and parents
• Are committed to safeguarding and supporting pupil wellbeing
