Salary: £16.26 - £19.50 per hour

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a highly regarded specialist school in Swindon, supporting pupils aged 5–19 with cognition and learning needs, social communication difficulties and a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, complex medical needs and physical disabilities. The school's ethos focuses on enabling every pupil to become as independent, confident and successful as possible.

The school provides a broad, highly adapted curriculum with a strong emphasis on communication, emotional wellbeing, personal development and preparing pupils for adulthood. Staff work collaboratively to create engaging learning experiences, remove barriers to learning and ensure every pupil feels valued, supported and able to thrive.

The school is looking to appoint a full-time HLTA on a long-term basis with an immediate start. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver targeted interventions, support pupils' communication and emotional regulation, and promote meaningful engagement across the curriculum. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop confidence, independence and essential life skills.

The successful HLTA will have:

  • HLTA qualification or relevant equivalent experience

  • Experience working within a SEND or specialist education setting

  • Knowledge of autism, social communication needs and learning difficulties

  • Experience supporting pupils with sensory needs, emotional regulation and behaviours that communicate unmet needs

  • Understanding of communication strategies such as visual supports, AAC, Signalong, PECS or Total Communication approaches

  • The ability to adapt learning activities to meet individual EHCP outcomes

  • Strong communication, teamwork and relationship-building skills

  • A patient, positive and child-centred approach with a commitment to inclusion and pupil progress
