Functional Skills Tutor
Location: Leicester
Pay: £20–£30 per hour
Hours: 15 hours per week
Contract: Long-term
TeacherActive is working with a pupil in Leicester who requires an experienced and resilient Home Tutor to provide personalised education in a home-based or alternative setting.
The pupil has social, emotional and mental health needs and may display challenging behaviour. The successful Home Tutor will need to build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil while delivering engaging Functional Skills Maths and English sessions.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a patient and adaptable tutor who is passionate about supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
The successful Home Tutor will be responsible for:
- Delivering 15 hours of personalised tuition each week
- Planning and teaching Functional Skills Maths and English
- Adapting lessons to meet the pupil’s individual learning needs
- Supporting the pupil’s emotional regulation and engagement
- Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Creating a calm, consistent and structured learning environment
- Monitoring progress and completing relevant reports
- Working closely with parents, carers and other professionals
The successful Home Tutor will have:
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience
- Proven experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and English
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour
- Strong de-escalation and relationship-building skills
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- Team Teach training is beneficial but not essential
- An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
