TeacherActive is proud to be working with Compass School Athelstan, a specialist school based in Westbury, Wiltshire, to recruit a dedicated HLTA. The school provides a nurturing, therapeutic learning environment with a bespoke, child-centred curriculum that focuses on individual needs, building positive relationships and helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning.

The school is looking to appoint a full-time HLTA on a long-term basis from September 2026, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate. The successful HLTA will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to deliver tailored learning activities, lead small-group interventions and support pupils with SEMH needs to develop positive behaviours, overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

The successful HLTA will have:

  • HLTA status or relevant equivalent qualifications and experience

  • Experience working within a specialist school, Alternative Provision or SEMH setting

  • Experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to deliver engaging, differentiated learning activities

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff

  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people
