Are you a patient, caring and resilient Learning Support Assistant with a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

TeacherActive is currently recruiting dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistants to work within schools and specialist education settings across Basildon and the surrounding areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference to pupils who require additional support with their learning, communication, behaviour and personal development.

The Role

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils to provide individualised support and help them access their education in a positive and inclusive environment.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND

• Supporting children with needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, communication needs and learning difficulties

• Helping pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities

• Supporting pupils with their social, emotional and communication development

• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour

• Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour

• Following individual education, behaviour and support plans

• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals

• Providing a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment

• Supporting pupils throughout the school day where required

The Ideal Candidate

We would love to hear from you if you:

• Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND

• Have experience within education, care, residential support, youth work or a similar environment

• Are patient, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations

• Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills

• Can build positive and professional relationships with pupils

• Are reliable, adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a team

• Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

• Are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Previous school-based experience is desirable but not always essential. Candidates with transferable experience from care, support work, residential care, youth work or other SEND-focused settings are also encouraged to apply.
