SEMH Learning Support Assistant – Immediate Start!

TeacherActive is currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in Colchester, starting ASAP.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys supporting pupils with additional needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.

The Role:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

• Support students with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.

• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

• Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to implement individual support strategies.

• Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

• Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and social development.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour.

• A calm, patient and resilient approach.

• Strong communication and behaviour management skills.

• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

• Experience in schools, alternative provisions, youth work or care settings is desirable.

• A willingness to learn and adapt to individual pupil needs.
