Location: Quidenham, Norfolk (NR16)

TeacherActive is working with a small, supportive independent specialist education setting in Quidenham, Norfolk, that is looking to recruit a PE Teacher to join its team.

The setting provides a calm and inclusive learning environment with small class sizes, supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), ASD traits and additional needs. Pupils follow a broad curriculum, with opportunities to work towards qualifications including GCSEs.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not mandatory for this position. We are particularly interested in candidates who have relevant experience teaching PE, delivering sports programmes, or working with young people within a similar SEND, ASD, SEMH, alternative provision or specialist education setting.

About the Role

As a PE Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible physical education sessions that encourage pupils to participate, develop new skills and build their confidence.

You'll need to adapt activities to suit different abilities and individual needs, recognising that some pupils may require additional encouragement and a flexible approach to successfully engage in physical education.

Alongside delivering PE, you'll play an important role in the wider school community, building positive relationships with pupils and working closely with teaching and support staff to promote positive behaviour, wellbeing and personal development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons and physical activities.
  • Teach and support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Adapt activities to meet pupils' individual needs, abilities and interests.
  • Support young people with ASD, ASD traits and additional needs.
  • Encourage participation, teamwork, confidence and resilience through sport.
  • Promote physical health, wellbeing and positive attitudes towards exercise.
  • Build strong, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support engagement.
  • Create a safe, structured and inclusive environment for physical activity.
  • Monitor pupil participation, development and progress.
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience teaching PE, coaching sport or delivering physical activities to young people.
  • Relevant experience within SEND, ASD, SEMH, alternative provision or a similar specialist setting is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of how to engage young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence adapting activities for different needs and abilities.
  • A genuine passion for sport, physical education and supporting young people.
  • Reliability, flexibility and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • QTS is welcomed but is not essential for candidates with strong, relevant experience.
