Personal Development Lecturer / Curriculum Lead

We are looking for an engaging and confident educator to lead and deliver a Personal Development programme for learners aged 16–19.

This is a varied role combining classroom teaching with curriculum development. You’ll deliver approximately 12–14 hours of teaching per week, while taking responsibility for ensuring the programme remains relevant, inclusive and engaging for young people.

The curriculum covers a broad range of personal, social and contemporary issues, including relationships, mental health and wellbeing, citizenship, equality and inclusion, politics, media, religion and ethics, financial awareness, sustainability, careers and sexual health.

The role

You will:

• Deliver engaging Personal Development / PSHE sessions to 16–19-year-old learners
• Review, develop and improve existing curriculum content and teaching resources
• Create well-structured learning that encourages discussion, reflection and critical thinking
• Confidently facilitate sensitive or challenging topics in an appropriate and balanced way
• Adapt sessions to meet the needs of different learners
• Use learner feedback, research and current issues to keep content fresh and relevant
• Support and develop other staff involved in delivering the programme
• Help maintain high standards across Personal Development provision

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have previous experience delivering Personal Development, PSHE, pastoral education or a related curriculum to young people.

You should have:

• A relevant degree or professional qualification
• Level 2 English and Maths, or equivalent
• A recognised teaching qualification is highly desirable although not essential
• Experience working with young people in an education or training environment
• Confidence discussing potentially sensitive subjects with learners
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• An interest in developing curriculum rather than simply delivering existing materials

This could suit an experienced FE Lecturer, PSHE/Personal Development Tutor, Pastoral Tutor or Curriculum Lead who enjoys working with 16–19-year-olds and wants the opportunity to shape and develop a successful programme.
