The school provides a highly supportive and therapeutic learning environment for boys aged 10–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including pupils with ADHD, autism, attachment difficulties and trauma-related needs.

This specialist setting combines education with therapeutic support, focusing on helping young people overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional regulation skills and build positive relationships.

With a strong emphasis on trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour management and personalised learning, this is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.

The Role

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH, ADHD, autism and additional needs.

  • Supporting pupils who display challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation and difficulties engaging with education.

  • Using positive behaviour management, de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches to create a safe learning environment.

  • Building trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties or disrupted education.

  • Supporting teachers with differentiated lessons and personalised learning activities.

  • Helping pupils achieve their EHCP targets and develop social, emotional and communication skills.

  • Encouraging positive choices, independence, resilience and confidence.

  • Supporting young people with their transition into further education, training or employment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.

  • Is confident, resilient, patient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.

  • Has an understanding of ADHD, autism, trauma and attachment-related needs.

  • Can establish clear boundaries while building positive relationships with pupils.

  • Is passionate about becoming a positive role model for young people.

  • Works effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Is available to start after October half-term.

Experience within SEMH schools, alternative provisions, PRUs, youth work, residential care or behaviour support would be highly beneficial.

Candidates with experience in sports coaching, mentoring or supporting young people with challenging behaviour are also encouraged to apply.
