TeacherActive are proud to be working with a college in Northampton that is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.

The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support young people who may face barriers to learning due to social, emotional and mental health needs, Autism or behavioural challenges.
You will work closely with teaching staff and the wider support team to help students engage with education, build confidence and develop the skills they need to progress.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students
Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
Supporting students with SEMH, Autism and challenging behaviour
Helping students manage emotions and develop positive coping strategies
Encouraging students to engage with learning and college life
Supporting positive behaviour and promoting independence
Working alongside teachers and other professionals to implement individual support strategies
Encouraging personal development, confidence and resilience
Helping students recognise and celebrate their progress
We're Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:
At least 6 months' experience working with young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs
Experience within a college, SEND, Alternative Provision, PRU or similar setting is desirable
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
The ability to remain calm and consistent when dealing with challenging situations
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
A genuine passion for supporting young people to reach their potential
The ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is reliable, approachable and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.
