TeacherActive are delighted to be working alongside a fantastic primary school in South Birmingham, who are looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a child in Year 1 from November 2026.

✨ About the Role

This is a full-time, long-term position, continuing throughout the academic year.

You will be providing 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with Autism, working closely with the class teacher and wider school team to help the pupil engage positively with their learning and feel happy, comfortable and supported throughout the school day.

Consistency is incredibly important in this role, so the school is looking for someone reliable, patient and committed who can build a strong, trusting relationship with the child.

Having worked closely with this school for several years, I know they have a fantastic reputation and provide a welcoming and supportive environment for both pupils and staff.

The school has a friendly, dedicated team who work closely together and genuinely support one another. There may also be the opportunity for permanent employment at the end of the placement, as the school regularly offers temporary staff permanent positions where there is a strong fit.

The Ideal Teaching Assistant

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working within a primary school setting

  • Experience providing 1:1 support

  • Experience supporting children with additional needs/SEND

  • The ability to follow guidance and instructions from the class teacher

  • A warm, positive and patient approach

  • The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with young pupils

  • A calm and nurturing manner

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • A reliable and consistent approach

  • A genuine passion for helping children feel safe, confident and included
