TeacherActive is currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Lewisham, South East London.
The school provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve academically while developing their confidence, independence and wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils with additional needs receive appropriate support throughout the school day.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the SEND team to support pupils across KS3 and KS4, both within the classroom and through targeted 1:1 or small-group interventions.
You will help pupils remain engaged with lessons, break down tasks where required and provide additional support to pupils who may experience difficulties with communication, attention, behaviour or emotional regulation.
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
- Experience supporting autism/ASC, ADHD, SEMH or learning difficulties
- Confidence supporting pupils across KS3 and KS4
- Strong behaviour management skills
- The ability to provide effective 1:1 and small-group support
- A patient, calm and resilient approach
- The ability to adapt support to individual pupils
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- A good understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with SEND across KS3 and KS4
- Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions
- Support pupils within mainstream classroom lessons
- Help pupils access and understand curriculum activities
- Adapt resources and tasks according to individual needs
- Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Encourage pupils to develop confidence and independence
- Work closely with teachers, the SEND team and other support staff
- Monitor pupil engagement and progress
- Support individual targets and strategies where appropriate
- Maintain a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment
- Follow safeguarding procedures and prioritise pupil wellbeing
