Job Title: SEND Teacher
Location: London
Start Date: Immediate Start / November 2026 / January 2027
Salary: £160–£250 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term & Permanent Opportunities

Are you a passionate SEND Teacher who believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive?

Do you love creating exciting, engaging and personalised lessons that make learning accessible to every pupil?

Are you looking for a rewarding teaching role where no two days are the same and even the smallest achievements make the biggest difference?

TeacherActive are excited to be recruiting enthusiastic, creative and dedicated SEND Teachers to work within a range of fantastic specialist SEND schools and alternative provisions across London.

Whether you're an experienced SEND specialist, a mainstream teacher looking to transition into special education or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) eager to develop your skills, we would love to hear from you!

Who Will You Be Teaching?

Our partner schools support children and young people aged 4–19, with a wide variety of special educational needs and disabilities. Depending on the setting, you could be working with pupils who have:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – Supporting pupils with communication, sensory processing, social interaction and developing independence through structured, personalised learning.

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) – Delivering sensory-rich, highly individualised learning experiences for pupils with complex physical, medical and communication needs.

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) – Creating engaging, practical lessons that develop essential life skills, communication and personal development.

  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) – Adapting the curriculum to help pupils build confidence, develop academic skills and achieve their individual potential.

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) – Supporting pupils who may experience emotional regulation difficulties, trauma or behavioural challenges through positive relationships and nurturing approaches.

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) – Creating stimulating, structured and interactive lessons that support concentration, engagement and positive learning experiences.

  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) – Using visual resources, Makaton, PECS and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to help pupils express themselves and engage with learning.

  • Physical Disabilities and Complex Medical Needs – Working collaboratively with specialist support teams to ensure pupils can access meaningful and inclusive educational experiences.

What Makes SEND Teaching So Rewarding?

SEND teaching is about so much more than delivering the curriculum.

It's celebrating a pupil communicating independently for the first time, helping a young person overcome a barrier to learning or watching a student develop the confidence to achieve something they never thought possible.

You'll have the opportunity to deliver creative lessons through sensory exploration, music, art, outdoor learning, technology, practical activities and life-skills development, making education meaningful and enjoyable for every pupil.

What We're Looking For

The successful SEND Teacher will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Have experience working with pupils with SEND, or demonstrate a genuine passion for developing within specialist education.

  • Be confident planning and delivering differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.

  • Understand the importance of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning outcomes.

  • Have excellent classroom management skills and a calm, nurturing approach.

  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists, SENDCos and other professionals.

  • Be creative, adaptable, patient and enthusiastic.

  • Have a genuine desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people.

Experience with Makaton, PECS, Team Teach, sensory learning or alternative communication methods would be advantageous, although not essential.
