TeacherActive is urgently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to support a specialist day school in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We are looking for reliable, committed and compassionate individuals who can join the school as soon as possible.

The Opportunity

The school supports pupils aged 4-11 with special educational needs and/or disabilities arising from cognition and learning difficulties.

It provides a specialist, nurturing environment where pupils receive individualised support to help them overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence, communication and independence.

Due to an immediate need for additional support, the school is looking to appoint SEND Teaching Assistants for both day-to-day and long-term opportunities.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide effective 1:1 and classroom support. You will play a key role in helping pupils access their learning, develop their communication and social skills, and become more independent.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils

  • Supporting children with severe learning difficulties

  • Helping pupils access the curriculum and engage in classroom activities

  • Supporting speech, communication and language development

  • Encouraging confidence, independence and positive social interaction

  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Building strong and trusting relationships with pupils

  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff

  • Supporting pupils with their individual learning and development goals

  • Creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment

The Successful Candidate

We are looking for SEND Teaching Assistants who have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND

  • Experience supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties

  • Experience supporting speech, communication and language needs

  • Confidence working with primary-aged pupils

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
